Assistant Professor in Film and Digital Arts (REQ7238)
The Department of Cinematic Arts at the University of New Mexico, College of Fine Arts,
invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Film and Digital Arts.
The position begins August 2019. Teaching responsibilities will include foundational and
advanced studio courses in a wide range of production approaches and aesthetics. The successful
candidate may also teach classes in film history, criticism, and theory.
The Department of Cinematic Arts values pluralism. The art we make, including videos,
computer games, digital animation, virtual reality, mixed media, as well as creative and critical
writing, embodies our disparate aesthetic appreciations and multifaceted views of the world. Our
curriculum juxtaposes “major works” with images that contest canonical categorization.
Cultivating art and artists whose presence is often underrepresented, our diverse faculty supports
a diverse student body in a collegial department where intellectual inquiry meets
experimentation.
The University of New Mexico is located at an altitude of 5,200 feet in Albuquerque, near the
center of our state. A city of 600,000 at the base of the Sandia Mountains in the Rio Grande
valley, Albuquerque has much to recommend it. Many peoples enrich the geographically
stunning landscape in terms of their histories, arts and sciences, languages, and cultural values.
UNM is a large “majority minority” state school with a faculty of over 3,000 serving
approximately 24,000 students.
